Questions, answered

Air Ambulance FAQs

What is an air ambulance?

It is a fully medically equipped aircraft staffed by a specialist crew, typically a physician and a critical-care flight nurse, able to continue intensive care in flight. It safely moves patients who are too ill or injured to travel by ordinary means.

When is an air ambulance needed?

When a patient must be moved urgently over a distance and requires medical care during the journey, for example evacuation after a serious illness or accident abroad, transfer to a specialist hospital, or repatriation to their home country.

What medical equipment is on board?

The cabin is configured as a mobile intensive-care unit with equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps and oxygen, selected to match the patient's condition for the specific mission.

Who travels with the patient?

A specialist medical team appropriate to the case, commonly a doctor and a flight nurse. In most situations a family member can accompany the patient, subject to the aircraft, the clinical picture and the medical team's guidance.

How quickly can a medical flight be arranged?

Our coordinators operate around the clock and begin work immediately. Activation speed depends on the medical assessment, aircraft positioning, crew and international permits, and the team prioritises the fastest safe option.

Do you handle international repatriation and permits?

Yes. We coordinate cross-border evacuation and repatriation end to end, including flight permits, clearances, ground ambulances and hospital handovers at both origin and destination, so the family has a single point of contact.

What does bedside-to-bedside mean?

It means care is continuous from the patient's bed in the departing hospital, through the ground and air transfer, to the bed in the receiving hospital, with no break in monitoring or treatment at any handover.

How is an air ambulance mission priced?

Pricing reflects the aircraft and range, the medical crew and equipment required, and international handling. Because every case is different, our team provides a tailored quote once the medical needs and route are assessed. Many patients are covered by travel or medical insurance, and we can liaise with providers where appropriate.
